Manchester United's Attempt to Trade Rashford for Barça's Bernal Falls Flat
Manchester United's negotiations for Marcus Rashford included a proposed player swap with young Barça star Marc Bernal, who declined the offer, preferring to stay in Catalonia.

In a surprising twist in the transfer market, Manchester United sought to include a player swap in their negotiations for Marcus Rashford, aiming to entice FC Barcelona with the inclusion of young talent Marc Bernal. However, the plan quickly unraveled as Bernal made it clear he had no intention of leaving the Catalan club.
Reports indicate that Manchester United was willing to lower their asking price of over €30 million for Rashford, hoping to leverage Bernal's potential as part of the deal. Unfortunately for United, Bernal, only 19 years old, firmly rejected the idea of moving away from Barcelona, stating that his future lies solely with the club he has come to know.

Barcelona also had no interest in parting with Bernal, who is considered a homegrown talent with exceptional potential. The club's management has made it clear that selling him was never an option. Just a few months prior, both Chelsea and Arsenal had inquired about Bernal's availability, but Barcelona rebuffed those attempts as well.
After recovering from a serious knee injury, Bernal has made a strong comeback, featuring in 32 matches last season, scoring five goals and providing an assist. His impressive performance has not gone unnoticed, with coach Hansi Flick expressing high regard for the midfielder, who is contracted with Barcelona until 2029.
Meanwhile, Rashford's time at Barcelona last season was marked by notable performances during his loan spell. Despite his contributions, the Catalan club opted not to activate their purchase option, which was set at €30 million, instead choosing to sign fellow England international Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for €80 million.
