Batista Meier on the Move to Paderborn – Next Career Step for Ex-Bayern Talent

Medical check on Thursday

Oliver Batista Meier is set to join SC Paderborn. Transfermarkt can confirm reports with its own information. The 25-year-old forward will leave Preußen Münster after just one season and join the Bundesliga newcomer from East Westphalia. A complete agreement has been reached between the clubs, and the medical check is scheduled for Thursday. Following that, Batista Meier is expected to sign a contract with SCP until 2029. For the player trained at FC Bayern, who was the top scorer for Preußen last season, the move to Paderborn represents the next step in his career.

The transfer fee is said to be around 400,000 euros. Batista Meier still has a contract in Münster until 2027, which can be extended by one more year via an option. However, after the relegation to the 3rd league, it became clear that the versatile technician, who can play in central positions, is seeking a new challenge.

Batista Meier was once regarded as the biggest talent at FC Bayern, having been trained in the youth ranks of the German record champions, where he also made his Bundesliga debut in May 2020. He was substituted in during the 78th minute of a 5-0 victory against Fortuna Düsseldorf, gaining twelve minutes of experience and seems to have now arrived in the top tier. Over the past few years, his journey has taken him through several stations, totaling six, where he consistently made his mark with good scoring stats. In the past season, despite relegation, he was one of the standout players for the Adlerträger: In 31 competitive matches, he scored six goals and provided four assists – an internal best.

For the native of Kaiserslautern, the move to Paderborn is also associated with the goal of consistently showcasing his visible potential at the highest level. In terms of market value, Batista Meier has seen a significant upward trend over the past two years; at the end of May 2024, he was valued at 500,000 euros. Through his stints in Ulm and Münster, the professional temporarily increased this to 1.8 million euros, but after Preußen's relegation, there was a slight adjustment to 1.5 million euros.

Batista Meier: Transfer Fits Paderborn's Path

Sportingly, the German-Brazilian should fit well into the profile that Paderborn has pursued under coach Ralf Kettemann and the sporting management for years: Highly talented players with development potential are to take the next step in a relatively calm environment at Paderborn.

Batista Meier is expected to bring this mix: He can be deployed as a number ten, a second striker, or on the offensive flanks, often seeking space between the lines and bringing both finishing quality and creativity in the final third. The 25-year-old arrives with experience from 58 second- and 65 third-division matches, in which he has recorded 48 goal contributions, to the Bundesliga newcomer. For Paderborn, Batista Meier is the second signing from Münster this summer, following Jano ter Horst, and the eighth overall.
