Saudi Arabia Lures Crysencio Summerville from European Giants

Crysencio Summerville, the 24-year-old Dutch international, has been a coveted target for several top European clubs, but he is set to make a surprising move to Saudi Arabia.

According to David Ornstein, Al Hilal and West Ham United have reached an agreement for Summerville's transfer, with the fee reported to be around €80 million. The winger is now expected to undergo a medical examination at the Saudi club, having already negotiated a lucrative long-term contract. Only final approvals are pending.

From London to Riyadh

Following West Ham's relegation to the Championship, it became almost inevitable that Summerville would depart. In recent weeks, clubs such as Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain, and AS Roma expressed interest in the talented winger.

The latest asking price from West Ham was approximately €58 million, while Roma had made a bid of €40 million—only for the Saudis to double that amount.

For West Ham, this sale represents a significant financial gain. Summerville joined the club from Leeds United for €29.3 million in August 2024, meaning the Hammers stand to profit by around €50 million from this deal.

Impressive Performance Amidst Struggles

Despite a challenging season for West Ham, Summerville was one of the standout performers. Over the course of 34 competitive matches, he scored seven goals and provided three assists. His contributions were also notable during the World Cup, where he delivered two assists and scored a goal in the Netherlands' 5-1 victory against Sweden.

For Al Hilal, Summerville marks yet another high-profile addition from Europe. Under the management of Simone Inzaghi, the club narrowly missed out on the league title to Al-Nassr, featuring Cristiano Ronaldo.

Saudi Arabia's Ambitious Pursuits

With the acquisition of Summerville, the 24-year-old joins a squad that could have continued to compete in the European elite. His signing follows that of former Barcelona striker Francisco Trincão, who moved to Al-Ahli for €50 million from Sporting Lisbon. This trend highlights Saudi Arabia's growing ambition to attract top talent away from Europe's most prestigious leagues, even as they continue to build their profile in a league that remains less competitive on the global stage.
