Matthäus Assesses Olise's Future at Bayern Munich

Lothar Matthäus, the legendary former German international, has weighed in on the ongoing speculation surrounding Michael Olise's future at Bayern Munich. In his latest column for Sky, Matthäus expressed a calm perspective regarding the rumors linking the 24-year-old winger to Real Madrid, emphasizing that he believes Olise will remain at the club.

The debate about Olise's future has intensified in recent weeks, with Real Madrid emerging as a potential suitor. However, official denials from the Spanish giants and clarifications from Bayern Munich have not quelled the chatter. Matthäus remains unconvinced that Olise will depart, stating, "In the past week, there has been speculation about Michael Olise's future, but I see it all quite relaxed."

Uli Hoeneß, Bayern's influential figure, had previously made it clear that Olise is not going anywhere, suggesting that Real Madrid can save their efforts in pursuing him. With a contract that extends until 2029, Olise's sale is not on Bayern's agenda, and the club is even considering an early contract extension for him. Matthäus noted, "The club wants to be successful and has already made two very good transfers," referring to the acquisitions of Ismael Saibari and Nathaniel Brown. He did not rule out the possibility of further signings.

A lingering question is Olise's preferred position on the field. During the World Cup, he showcased his talent in an attacking midfield role for France, where he set a record with seven assists. However, at Bayern, the number ten position is currently occupied by Jamal Musiala, with Saibari also capable of playing there.

Matthäus advised caution regarding Olise's role, stating, "On this position, FC Bayern already has two or three players. Olise can move into the center when necessary." Although he has played centrally for Bayern before, Matthäus highlighted that Olise feels more comfortable on the right wing, where he has made a more significant impact compared to his time in the French central role during the World Cup.

As the new season approaches, how Vincent Kompany will manage the distribution of roles within the team will be one of the early challenges in the preparation phase. Olise is expected to return to Munich following his post-World Cup holiday.
