Spraying: humidity and freshness for the garden

The simplest trick to lower the temperature in the garden during a heatwave: spraying.

During a heatwave, there is generally no risk of blight for tomatoes. Thus, in the evening, you can turn on the spray for about twenty minutes over your garden, and the ground temperature will drop. The plants revive, the humidity allows them to breathe better, and prepare for the hot day ahead.

Shading: the anti-heatwave weapon for the garden

We mentioned it in our article on drought and heatwaves in the garden: shading helps to lower the temperature. This solution is particularly interesting to implement, especially in the south of France. You can set up trellis structures and shade nets, or grow very tall plants in the garden like sorghum. It is also possible to cultivate near trees, as long as the competition is not too fierce, to take advantage of their light shade.

When to water to cool your garden?

As we mentioned earlier, in the evening! This is when you can refresh the garden and allow it to rest all night. If you are not in a hot climate, avoid this solution outside of extreme heat periods to limit the risk of disease. Prefer morning watering, or water in the evening but avoid wetting the foliage of tomatoes in particular.
